President and Chief Executive Officer

James (Jim) Skippen is the CEO of Wi-LAN and Chairmain of Wi-LAN’s Board of Directors. He is responsible for all operations at Wi-LAN, including the development and implementation of the Company’s strategic and operating plans.

A seasoned licensing executive, Jim has managed several large and complex patent licensing negotiations and litigations. Prior to joining Wi-LAN in June 2006, he held a number of senior management positions, including Senior VP Patent Licensing and General Counsel at MOSAID Technologies, a TSX-listed Canadian technology company headquartered in Ottawa. While leading the patent licensing program at MOSAID, Jim successfully concluded license agreements with many of the world’s best known electronics companies and helped MOSAID distinguish itself as an intellectual property powerhouse.

Jim also practiced technology law for many years in two of Canada's largest law firms. He is currently a board member of Icron Technologies Inc., and the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance. Jim is also a member of the Executive for the Ottawa Technology Law Group and the Licensing Executives Society. He is former Chairman of the Toronto Computer Lawyers Group and a former Vice-Chairman and Director of the Canadian Diabetes Association. Jim is a frequent speaker at conferences and has delivered numerous papers and articles concerning such topics as management of intellectual property, patent licensing and technology law.
